(9/12/03, 6 p.m. ET) -- R& B star Ashanti will be the subject of the next installation of VH-1's Driven. The show will debut this Sunday (September 14) at 10 p.m. ET on VH-1. Driven will detail Ashanti's rise from a young child in Glen Cove, Long Island to super-stardom, including the eight years and various record deals before the singer scored her first hit, "Foolish" on Murder Inc. Records in 2002. Ashanti's parents, Murder Inc. Records CEO, Irv Gotti, Ja Rule, and Fat Joe were interviewed for the episode.
In related news, Ashanti's latest, Chapter II, was recently certified platinum for sales of one million copies. The set is presently Number 20 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The latest single and video from the set is "Rain On Me."
(7/10/03, 10 a.m. ET) -- Grammy award winning singer Ashanti scored her second consecutive Number One debut this week when her latest set Chapter II entered the Billboard 200 at Number One after selling more than 326,000 copies, according to Nielsen Soundscan. The singer's self-titled debut set entered the charts at Number One in April of 2002 after selling more than half a million copies in its first week.
"Rock Wit U," the lead single from Chapter II, is currently Number Four on the urban Radio & Records National Airplay chart.
